“GARVEY” – MOLINA f. Bambu & Cavem Moetavation, produced by DJ Icewater

Released November 1st, 2011 by Corner Store Music Group

Molina has joined forces with Brooklyn producer DJ Icewater, L.A. rapper Bambu, and fellow Denver hip-hop artist Cavem Moetavation to release a new skool tribute to Marcus Garvey.

Molina timed the release in recognition of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday that pays homage to ancestors and dead family members. The holiday is rooted in indigenous belief systems, in particular a Mexica (Aztec) tradition in reverence of the goddess Mictecacihuatl. Similar observances are held in South American and African cultures, and in some parts of Europe.

“STACKS OF BILLS”

Westword Denver write-up on "Stacks of Bills"

“Stacks of Bills” personalizes the global corporate agenda, giving voice to the day-to-day experiences that birthed the Occupy Movement. With it’s chill vibe, “Stacks of Bills” wasn’t intended to be an Occupy track, but Molina and Diles writing session proved otherwise, speaking to the weight of the Movement in these times.. The jazz-influenced track was produced by Diles, with Brooklyn-based DJ Icewater adding the cuts.

“OCCUPY”

Denver Post write-up on "Occupy"

“Occupy” was produced by DJ Icewater, who recognized that the term “Class War” was being misused and flipped by corporate media on a daily basis. Molina met Bravo and Isis downtown Denver to discuss the nature of the Occupy Movement, what it means for communities of color and for the Hip-Hop Movement. "Occupy" was recorded at Cherry Sound Studio in Denver.

The track is an ode of sorts to Philip Bailey’s song by the same name, and also to Spike Lee’s “Clockers”. The single’s artwork, created by scarletSmoke Concepts, is taken from the drug transaction scene in "Clockers" (whose soundtrack contains Philip Bailey’s original "Children of the Ghetto"). This song is dedicated to the children across the globe that continue to persevere in the face of injustice and oppression. Coming all the way live from every hood worldwide, we present to you, "Children of the Ghetto". – One Eyed Kings
